Three of the missions on the Baja Peninsula are described below.
Mision Nuestra Senora de Loreto Concho – 1740. Loreto is the site of the first Spanish mission founded on the Pacific Coast (including north of Carmel and San Francisco, CA.)
Saint Loreto 
Mision San Francisco Javier de Vigge-Biaundo – 1758
The town of San Javier is nestled in the craggy Sierra de la Giganta. The structure is the crown jewel of the Baja missions because of its preservation. It has three gold-leaf altars that were shipped from mainland Mexico and assembled on site. Cost – $1 million pesos, financed by profits from pearl fisheries on the Sea of Cortez.
Madonna Negro 
Mision Nuestra Senor San Ignacio de Kadakaaman – 1782. San Ignacio was the 11th mission in California and was in operation until 1840, when the Jesuits were deposed by the government, following Mexico’s declaration of independence.
