This is the Animal Lovers segment of my Camino photos.

The Camino isn’t just about the sights or the miles we cover; it’s also encounters with pilgrims and saying hello to any animals that notice us. Some animals had things to say, most just watched us stroll by.

Donkeys and Horses
A donkey can be a master at ignoring you; however, an exception will be made if you have a treat in your hand.

Donkeys are blessed with one heck of a honkin’ voice that carries for kilometers, The distant “hee-haw” at sunrise was to remind everyone that feeding time was overdue and they’re waiting.

Unlike the donkeys, the horses want attention and we pilgrims are glad to give it to them.

Dogs
Friendly faces – more often bored than curious.

Cats
Some of us bring cat treats.

Feathers
These birds are noisier than the four-legged friends.

Sheep and Goats
While the sheep ignore us, the goats rush to the fences to say hello. They are very obvious about asking for food.

Cattle
There’s just something about cows.

“Buen Camino” from Paws, Hooves & Feathers
The dogs, cats, donkeys and other animals provide a form of support along the trail becoming part of what makes the Camino special. Even an unexpected goldfish pond at the end of a long walking day is delightful.
